Privacy Policy

This policy describes how locals.surf handles your information. The app is operated by Project Vibes Pty Ltd (Australia). We try to collect as little as possible, store it securely, and never sell it.

WHAT WE COLLECT

• Account info. Email address (for magic-link sign in), display name, optional phone number, optional home break, optional bio, optional avatar image.
• Spots and recipes you save. Coordinates, names, exposure settings, and the condition recipes you create. These are stored against your account.
• Crew and shared spots. Records of who you are connected to and which spots you have shared with whom.
• Statuses. Short broadcasts you choose to send to your crew (expire after 6 hours).
• Device push tokens. Apple Push Notification Service tokens, used only to deliver alerts you have opted in to receive.
• Condition alerts. Records of when your saved recipes have matched live conditions.

WHAT WE DO NOT COLLECT

• We do not run third-party advertising or analytics SDKs.
• We do not track you across other apps or websites.
• We do not sell your data.

HOW WE USE IT

• To run the core features: showing your spots, matching saved recipes against live conditions, delivering alerts you have opted in to, connecting you with people you have invited or accepted.
• To improve the product based on aggregate behaviour (for example, which features are used).
• To contact you about account or service issues if needed.

WHO WE SHARE IT WITH

We use a small number of service providers to operate the app. We do not share your data with anyone else.

• Supabase hosts our database, authentication, and storage. Your account record and saved data live here.
• Stormglass provides surf and tide forecasts. When the app requests conditions for a spot, only the coordinates of that spot are sent. No personal data is sent.
• Apple Push Notification Service delivers push notifications to your device when an alert fires.

LOCATION DATA

The app uses your device location only when you are actively placing a new spot on the map, and only with your permission. We do not track your location in the background.

YOUR CHOICES

• You can edit or delete spots, recipes, and crew connections from inside the app.
• You can turn push notifications off in your iOS settings at any time.
• You can request account deletion by emailing the address below. We will delete your account and associated personal data within 30 days.

DATA RETENTION

We keep your account data for as long as your account exists. Statuses expire automatically after 6 hours. If you delete your account, your personal data is removed from our active systems; backups are rotated and overwritten on a routine schedule.

SECURITY

Data is encrypted in transit. Access to production systems is restricted to authorised personnel. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your information.

CHILDREN

locals.surf is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 13.

CHANGES TO THIS POLICY

If we make material changes, we will update the date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, notify you in the app.
